Your Website : Optimize your website for humans, search engines (SEO), and social platforms

Updated Sunday, November 02, 2025

Here are some guidelines to help you improve your website content for both people and search engines.

We set these elements up when your website is created, but you can update them anytime.

Most important: make sure your content is helpful for people. Filling your site with random keywords can actually hurt your results.

When you make updates, it may take a few days or even weeks before search engines show the changes.

Start here: Control Panel > Pages

  1. In the AgentWebsite Control Panel, click Pages.
  2. Find a page you want to optimize, and click Edit details.
  3. The details section will open. Modify HTML page title and Meta description as needed.
  4. Click Save changes at the bottom of the window.

Meta description tag

Meta descriptions often show up as the text under your link in search results. They can also appear when someone shares your page in a text message or on social media sites like Facebook.

To edit meta descriptions, go to Control Panel > Pages > [page] > Edit details > Meta description.

  • Write a unique meta description for every page
  • Include the page’s target keyword and relevant information
  • Keep descriptions between 135 and 160 characters
  • Avoid using quotation marks or other symbols that may cause truncation
  • Include value propositions and call-to-action
  • Don’t be misleading or deceptive

HTML page title tag

HTML page titles usually show up as the title in search results. They can also appear when someone shares your page in a text message or on social media sites like Facebook.

To edit HTML page titles, go to Control Panel > Pages > [page] > Edit details > HTML page title.

  • Write a unique and descriptive title tag for each page
  • Use sentence case or title case
  • Include your target keyword and relevant information
  • Keep HTML page titles under 60 characters
  • Create something click-worthy but not clickbait
  • Match search intent

HTML heading tags

HTML headings are often displayed in the text of search engine results:

To edit built-in HTML headings, go to Control Panel > Advanced > Headings

To edit HTML headings in content that can be edited with the WYSIWYG editor, simply edit the heading text. An example of this are the headings found in Control Panel > Pages > For Buyers > Edit page.

  • Use heading tags to provide structure and context for your content
  • Break up blocks of text with subheadings
  • Include keywords in your header tags
  • Optimize for featured snippets
  • Only use one H1 tag per page where possible
  • Keep your heading tags consistent and concise
  • Make your heading tags interesting and compelling

On-page content

On-page content is often displayed in the text of search engine results:

"On-page content" means the content found throughout your website.

One example of on-page content is the text found in Control Panel > Profiles > [profile] > Edit profile. Other examples of on-page content are the text found in Listings, Regions, Company, Reviews, and Pages.

  • Conduct keyword research and target relevant keywords
  • Create high-quality content that matches search intent
  • Use internal links and anchor text
  • Add image alt tags
  • Make content easy to read and scan
  • Avoid keyword stuffing or duplicate content
