Forwarded Domains No Longer Recommended

Updated Wednesday, November 01, 2023

Web browsers have changed. Domain forwarding now causes errors and warnings in modern web browsers.

As of 2023, domain forwarding is no longer recommended.

When accessing a forwarded or "pointing" a domain name, you may notice browser errors or warnings. This is because the domain no longer has an SSL certificate.

The problem is especially noticeable when the forwarded domain remains in search engine results. Within a few weeks of a domain switch, search engines will automatically remove links to the domain and start to index pages on the new domain.

AgentWebsite does not supply SSL certificates for forwarded domains. At the time of this writing, we are not aware of any registrar that does.

How To Avoid Privacy Warnings and Errors On Forwarded Domains

Method #1

Access the forwarded domain using HTTP, not HTTPS, to avoid browser warnings and errors.

Do this: http://www.myforwardeddomain.com (Note there is no "s" after http.)

Not this: https://www.myforwardeddomain.com

Note that accessing the forwarded domain this way will still show a "Not secure" alert.

Method #2

This method requires advanced technical skills, including DNS configuration and creating logical rules with regular expressions. Create an account at Cloudflare.com and configure it to bind an SSL certificate to HTTPS requests for your domain. AgentWebsite does not provide this service. If you need help understanding or implementing this method, contact Cloudflare support.
